ADVICE FOR PATIENTS

Before your procedure:
Please arrange for someone to take you home after your procedure; it is neither safe nor legal for you to drive after receiving sedation. Ask only one person to accompany you. You will be at the Endoscopy Center for about 1 1/2 hours. If you have questions about the preparation required for your procedure, call your doctor’s office. Most patients are a little anxious before a procedure. Try not to worry. Relax; the procedure will be much easier that you think.

The day of your procedure:
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes and leave jewelry and other valuables at home. Bring your insurance card and a complete list of all you current medications with you. Tell the admitting nurse if you have any medication allergies, latex allergy or if you have a defibrillator, pacemaker, artificial heart valve or heart valve disease.

After your procedure
Most patients are ready to go home 30 – 45 minutes after their procedure. You will get the results before you go home. If biopsies were taken, these results will be available, several days later, from your doctor. Written instructions regarding your activities, diet and medications will be provided before you leave.

Expect to be drowsy and forgetful for the rest of the day. Please remember that you cannot legally or safely drive, operate machinery or sign legal contracts until the day after your procedure. If you have questions, please call your doctor.

The Endoscopy Center is owned and managed by Endoscopy Associates of Marin, Inc (Drs, Bloom, Varner, McAuliffe, Kao, Bazalgette and Sowerby).
